The programme also seeks collaboration with other national and international government and private organizations.
Conference:
The conference is scheduled to take place from 7-13 August, 2011 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The conference will bring together 50 young people across the 10 regions of Ghana with equal gender representation. The participant will have the opportunity to be informed on critical environmental and policy related issues in Ghana.
The participants will have the platform to share ideas, discuss and dialogue on key socioeconomic and environmental issues affecting youth development in Ghana. The participants will be counseled on the choice of academic paths and career options in the area of natural resources, environment, agriculture and related fields.
The participants will also be trained on effective communication, dialogue, and scientific reporting and presentation skills as well as business management and entrepreneurial skills. At the end of the conference, participants will come out with working document focus at developing strategies on environmental protection for the National Youth Policy.
Who can participate?
Young people between the ages of 18 and 35 can participate in this programme. Each applicant is expected to demonstrate a good command of the English language both spoken and written. Participants of this programme are from a diverse range of background and similarly, diverse array of skills and competencies. Hence, it is expected that all participants respect the cultural, religious, ideology & diversity of each other.
Expected Outputs
Awareness on environmental and policy issues among the youth created
The capacity of the youth to support decision making and mainstreaming processes of environmental issues enhanced
Youth are aware and capable of accessing environmental and natural resources opportunities

Environmental degradation presents some of the most profound and complex challenges with consequent effects including health, poverty and social retardation.
The youth constitute an important portion of Ghana’s population and are particularly vulnerable to environmental risks for example access to clean and safe drinking water (water scarcity), flooding and droughts. Projected estimates of the effects of climate change shows that Africa including Ghana will be the hardest hit by climate change. Read more....
